Canadian Fishing Trips
With vast areas of scenic, unspoiled land, Canada offers tremendous fishing opportunities. Here are some ideas for Canadian fishing trips.
Canadian Fishing Trips
Banff National Park is located in British Columbia and can be reached from Calgary and Vancouver, Canada. This makes it relatively accessible, at least until you get to the park. Finding the best fishing spots can require a good hike due to the nature of the park, but hoofing it is definitely worth it.
The best spot is the Ram River. There are two distinct areas, the south and north branches. I prefer the south for Canadian fishing trips for a variety of reasons. The scenery is stunning with a lake, falls and plenty of prime eddies and shoreline areas for casting. This is cutthroat trout area. There are riffles, runs, broken rock bottoms, pools and pretty much anything a trout could want. Trout up to 25 inches have been caught, but this is rare. Caddis, Mayflies and Midges can be found, but Stonefly hatches in early August are the best time for Canadian fly fishing trips in this area.

If you are looking for a secret location that is missed by everyone, but is well-known, the Grand River in Ontario is the place. You may have heard about the Grand. Polluted, dirty, terrible, never again – all of these phrases were used to describe it. Roughly ten years ago, however, the Canadian authorities got off there duff and put things right. The Grand is now clean and sweat. It also offers some of the best Brown Trout fishing in Canada. Despite the passage of so much time, few people think of the Grand when planning Canadian fishing trips. Sounds like an opportunity to me!
If you believe size matters, the Bow River is your destination. Located relatively close to Calgary, the Bow consistently produces lively twenty inch plus fish. We are talking Rainbows and Browns out the ying yang. Taking on the Bow, however, is a challenge. Although the fish are large, catching them is no easy feat. The Bow is a large, powerful and wide river. The massive amount of water can make it difficult to find the prime spots. That being said, it makes it all the sweeter when you do.
You really can’t go wrong with Canadian fishing trips. Any of the three destinations should satisfy your fishing addiction.
